You know that renewable energy is becoming more part of every day life the BBC devotes a whole day to promoting it. And what made ‘Energy Day’ even more relevant for us was that the BBC asked us to take the SunGift Solar Van along to Radio 5 Live’s Energy Day event at Media City in Manchester.

While the day included presenters such as Nicky Campbell cycling and Peter Allen running in a hamster

wheel to power 5 Live’s microgrid for the day, the more serious side focussed on our future energy mix and exactly how we will keep the lights on.

Our solar van was included in the day alongside other interactive energy-harnessing technologies including the re-use of chip fat from the BBC canteen, wind turbines and kinetic energy demonstrations.

The high profile event was featured throughout the day on national TV and attracted Energy Secretary Ed Davey, who stopped at our solar van to chat with Gabriel about energy policy. This marked another high-profile lobbying opportunity, following a discussion earlier in the month that Gabriel had with DECC’s Patrick Alcorn about the commercial Renewable Heat Incentive and plans for potential rises in payments for some technologies.
