SunGift injects sunshine into community event

Local business SunGift Solar has injected some sunshine into the Ottery St Mary Food and Families festival by stepping in as the headline sponsor.

The Exeter-based company, which is currently the most recommended renewable energy installer in the UK, was keen to support the festival thanks to the town’s emphasis on high-quality food and goods from local suppliers.

“When we were asked if we would like go be involved, we had no hesitation,” said Gabriel Wondrausch, managing director of SunGift Solar. “The festival is an excellent example of how much excitement and enthusiasm local businesses can bring to community events. Sustainability is not just about producing your own energy – it’s also about buying produce from local companies, keeping down deliveries miles, and ensuring that your goods stay as local and fresh as possible.

“The whole Food and Families festival is a huge occasion for the Ottery St Mary community, and I’d encourage as many visitors from local towns and villages to come along and see the exceptional foods and services that local businesses have to offer.”

Taking place on 13 and 14 June, the festival includes a market stall running the length of Mill Street, a cookery theatre, live music, beer (and cider) tent, children’s competitions, a fish dancing competition and cookery demonstrations using local ingredients.

Organising committee member Ruud Jansen Venneboer said:

“It’s great to have SunGift on board as our headline sponsor. They’ve been a part of the Ottery community for some time now, helping our residents generate their own energy by installing solar panel installations on their houses.

“Last year’s festival was a huge success, and we are anticipating an even better event this year, with more stalls, more attractions, and a bigger street market.”
