SunGift Solar has come to the rescue for Exeter City Centre, offering to work through the night for free to put up all the Christmas lights.

Exeter City Council announced a number of months ago that it could not afford to put up the lights this year, due to budget constraints. When SunGift Solar’s managing director Gabriel Wondrausch heard this, he immediately stepped in to offer the company’s help supplying SunGift electricians to do the labour and hard work.

Gabriel said: “It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas in Exeter without the lights, so when I heard that they might not be put up this year my immediate reaction was to offer our services. Were an Exeter company through and through, and we want the city to be vibrant and thriving during the Christmas period. We hope this news will put a smile back on shoppers’ faces and get them into the Christmas spirit.”

SunGifts offer to do the core work kicked the campaign into action, which then gave the council the impetus to gain support from other businesses, including South West Communications, to fund the equipment and a promotional campaign.

John Harvey, Exeter City Centre Manager, said: “Thanks to SunGift’s generous offer, Christmas is now back on the agenda in Exeter City Centre. You cannot underestimate the importance of impressive lights in attracting shoppers to Exeter city centre they reflect the spirit of Christmas and show visitors a warm and welcoming message. We can’t thank SunGift enough.”

The job of installing the Christmas lights is a huge, expensive undertaking for SunGift Solar’s electricians, but they have agreed to work through the night to minimise the disruption in the city centre. The responsibility for the work is also in trusted hands, as SunGift head electrician Phill Taylor who is project managing the job has lead the installation of the lights for the council for the past 12 years.
