He may only have been at SunGift for a few months, but domestic solar specialist Ollie Gibbs has fitted in perfectly with our friendly yet highly professional culture.

“I love my job – particularly as I get the chance to help people – day in, day out,” said Ollie. “I grew up on a farm, and have seen more and more farms turning to renewable energy recently. I’ve always thought that it is absurd to pay for energy when you can generate it for free yourself.

“If you decide to have a survey – whether you’re interested in solar PV or solar thermal – it’s my job visit your house, carry out a full site survey and advise you on the best renewable energy solution to suit your needs. It’s extremely satisfying as the improvements I suggest can help reduce energy bills and lower your carbon footprint tremendously.”

Ollie – who leads an extremely active lifestyle – has worked throughout the world on luxury yachts and as a kite surfing instructor, including stints in the Caribbean, Egypt, Venezuela and Brazil. It was during his time on the yachts that he became interested in renewables as he saw increasing amounts being manufactured with renewable energy technologies as part of their original equipment.

Ollie now lives in Exmouth and – when he’s not advising on the benefits of solar – he still enjoys kite surfing and wake boarding on Exmouth beach.
