Solar PV Systems
Solar PV panels, or Solar Photovoltaic panels, can be used for generating electricity. The Solar PV panels are connected to the national grid so that when the panels are producing electricity and you are not using it, the electricity is fed back into the grid. You are paid a premium for all the energy you produce, as well as an additional amount for any energy you export.

Q: How much does a Solar PV system cost?
A: Prices for photovoltaic systems vary depending on the size of the system to be installed and the type of photovoltaic solar panel being used. Essentially, the size of the system is dictated by the amount of space available for the panels and how much you want to spend. Solar PV systems cost on average £3,000 - £3,500 per kwp and you will need approximately 8m² of panel area per kwp. Most domestic systems are 1.5kwp – 4kwp systems.
Q: Can I sell the electricity I produce?
A: : In April 2010 the government introduced the Solar Feed-in Tariff. This scheme means that you will get paid a premium for all the renewable electricity you generate, as well as a payment of 3p per unit for all the electricity you export to the National Grid.
